Making it Happen!

Every event has its challenges, but this one definitely goes down in the books.

The idea was to hang a stag head over the fireplace, all without damaging the walls of the venue, of course. The odds were seriously stacked against us and most people would've just said it can't be done. But we brainstormed and came on the day with all our tools and bag of ticks, and I told these guys "whatever the cost, short of damaging the venue, just MAKE IT HANG." - and after a few failed methods and some deep breaths.... she hung! Then proceeded to stare at me with her evil eye all night.

It's just an example of our philosophy that anything can be done, so we'll make it happen. We always enjoy the challenge of finding a way, and laughing about the crazy things we get up to doing this job! Best part is, the bride and groom never need to know!

Thanks Hayley Rae Photography and Elle&R for the photos!

Featured! | Luke + Alyssa on Real Weddings Blog

Happy 2014 everyone! It's been an exciting start to the new year for Spotlight..... We received our first wedding feature on the Real Weddings blog!! Check it out HERE!

I can't really contain my excitement, so I'm just not going to. This one is especially awesome to have featured because it was a full plan and design for me!

Luke + Alyssa came to me all the way from San Antonio, Texas needing some long distance help to plan their destination wedding in Vancouver. They had chosen Grouse Mountain as their venue because they love the outdoors, the views are stunning, and it offered the perfect laid back, Westcoast feel they wanted. Believe it or not, they planned an August wedding in Vancouver to ESCAPE the heat! And they continued to laugh at me every time I mentioned over Skype how hot it's been here (meanwhile they were sitting in 35-40 degrees C..... at night).

I'll let you read more about them in the feature, but it was so fun working with these two! I loved how the day turned out - it fit their personalities perfectly.

Also a HUGE shout out to Focus Imaging Photography for taking the amazing photos. Mike and Maddy were great to work with, and their photography style was the perfect match for this wedding! Make sure you check out their website :)

I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who has been supporting me in this crazy endeavour. It's an amazing feeling to put yourself out there and see it start to pay off. I'm so grateful for all the referrals, kind words and encouragement!

Collaborative Styled Photo Shoot

Well, this is the 4th (or 5th?) blog post about this collaborative styled photoshoot amongst us vendors involved, but that's only because it turned out sooooo cute and we're all swooning!! So one more won't hurt!

A few months ago the very talented Caitlin J Makeup Artistry contacted me because her and Hayley Rae Photography were teaming up to plan and design a styled photoshoot. She was wondering if I'd lend a few décor items to help finish off the two looks they were going for. We messaged back and forth quite a bit with different ideas, sending pictures of what I have and what she was envisioning, and eventually settled on the perfect items. She also asked if I would be on site for the day to help set-up and place props, and of course I was happy to be there to see it all come together!! Not to mention, Adrian and I gladly volunteered to capture the shoot through Lucky Ones Media and produce a fun behind the scenes film. Check it out here!

The video highlights all the vendors involved but I'd definitely like to give them another shout out because they're ALL so talented, passionate, hard working, and just flat out awesome people! I appreciate small businesses more than ever, and am so happy to support all the creative entrepreneurs and solopreneurs around town. There are SO MANY fantastic vendors in the Vancouver wedding industry.

So for starters of course, thank you to Caitlin J Makeup Artistry for coming up with the idea, hand-making so many of the elements, coordinating everyone involved and in general just making it all happen! On top of that, she put her skills to work doing hair and makeup on Kelsey, our beautiful model.

BIG thank you to Hayley Rae Photography for taking the amazing photos, which definitely speak for themselves. Hayley is my sister and a very talented wedding photographer, so I highly recommend her for all you brides on the photographer hunt.

Davie & Chiyo for lending some beautiful accessories. The clutch, necklace and earrings can all be seen and/or purchased on their website, among many other adorable and chic styles!

Blooming Aisle Floral Design for donating the gorgeous bouquet seen in the glam look. Carly at Blooming Aisle is so talented, I work with her a ton. She's always at the top of my referral list for florists!

Last but certainly not least is our stunning model, Kelsey. She's great to work with and takes gorgeous photos (needless to say). She's also the sweetest person and helped make the day that much more fun :)

Here are a couple of my personal favourite photos from the shoot. Let us know what you think! Which look is more your style? Rustic or Glam?

Be sure to also read the other vendors' blog posts on the shoot for more details!

Happy One Year Anniversary, Amanda + Richard!

Amanda and Richard - Second Shooter Photos-209.jpg

I'm so excited to wish Amanda and Richard a Happy One Year Wedding Anniversary today!! I love these two to pieces and it was SUCH a joy working with them a year ago.

They had a gorgeous ceremony at Eaglequest Coyote Creek in Surrey complete with winter trees, draping and enchanted uplighting for the perfect atmosphere. Oh, and a snowboard for a guestbook! Being the winter lovers they are, it seemed only fit they celebrated away at the peak of Grouse Mountain at Altitudes Bistro. The room was beautiful - stunning views of the city, and the perfect décor with a hint of Christmas for that time of year. Their centrepieces were also handmade by Amanda's grandpa which made such a nice personal touch. Instead of holding out for sunshine like most couples, we were all crossing our fingers for a little snow fall and they got it just in time! It was a beautiful winter wonderland :)

Wishing them so many more years of happiness and love! xoxo
